This project reframes and rethinks a two-story cottage. Most of the work involves revising the roofline. This creates the opportunity to improve drainage, increase interior usable space and also create architectural interest. The result is a building envelope that significantly improves space within the cottage while enhancing the appearance and functioning of the exterior roofline.
This rustic hilltop bungalow had enormous potential that was not fully realized. Originally closed off from the outside, this project involved significant changes to bring in light and epic views. New windows opened up the interior of the house, interior changes improved flow and exterior spaces expand outdoor options while providing unimpeded views of the surrounding countryside.
A house on a quiet street with awesome views but a dated and contrained floor plan. The goal was the creation of a primary residence that maximized liveable space, connected inside with outside, and maximized enjoyment of the view from all locations.
A legacy farmhouse had solid bones, expanded over numerous renovations. A re-imagination of the overall structure created new and modern interior and exterior spaces, brought together through the creation of consistent structural and design elements across the entire house.
This is one of the most radical renovations we have undertaken. A basic bungalow was reinvented into a mult-story structure. Rather than starting over, the essential structure and design was built upon and extended. Roof lines were respected, structural elements were echoed, and new spaces were created that fit within the overall whole. The result is a substantially different house that does everything its owners hoped for.
Not every renovation is extensive, and not every renovated house is old. This project imaged integrating a timber frame structure using traditional post-and-beam construction techniques into a brand new bungalow. The result is a timeless and elegant hand-hewn structure that delivers a prominent and timeless feel.
A lovely and solid traditional one-and-a-half story Ontario farmhouse had been expanded previously. The house lacked connection between inside and outside, and severely limited the availability of natural light. A new addition was designed that worked inside the constraints of existing structures, while creating abundant connection to exterior spaces and light.
What happens when you inherit a non-functioning barn on a property that has been in your family for five generations? In this case, the answer was a stylish yet rustic art studio and exhibition space with ample space for entertaining.
The original house was a modest and very typical 1970s split level. Careful design and planning results in a different and much more expansive structure that transforms very traditional origins into a thoroughly modern country.
What started as an 1800s stone house with several additions needed a significant update to be more usable. A new kitchen, a new mudroom, a reimagined dining room and a brand new second-story master suite were all desired in a structure that stayed within the original footprint.
