The construction of this original stone farmhouse dates back to the late 1800s. Several renovations since had led to a larger space, but still with a number of living challenges.
While working within the existing footprint and concrete foundation of the addition, the goal of this project was the substantial renovation of a number of interior spaces. The desire was to create a new kitchen and new mudroom, a dining room, and also add a master bedroom suite on the second story.
Making all of this possible involved substantive changes to the middle section of the house. The roofline was raised, aligning and integrating it fully with the roof of the original house. Maximizing the size of second story windows involved creative stepping of the crown moulding around the window spaces at the roof line. The porch and the mudroom were also substantially rethought, with columns helping to create a more prominent and elegant main entrance.
Windows were replaced throughout the structure, and the entire addition was clad in board-and-batten siding that provides a classic, timeless look that complements the stone of the original house.
