This hilltop bungalow is blessed with expansive views of the surrounding areas. Built on a hilltop, the backyard enjoys unimpeded and breathtaking visibility for miles, The goal of this project was to maximize the exterior enjoyment of the owners, creating seamless indoor and outdoor spaces.
Successful completion of the project required significant landscaping changes. Expanding of the footprint of the house required installation of a 100’ retaining wall made of armour stone in order to establish a level building area for the garage footings..
In the backyard, retaining walls were also built to level up the backyard and expand the usable area. Stone steps continue to provide access to the lower level. A further elevated central pad was created and inset with decorative pavers to create a central fire pit.
New cedar decking was constructed across the back of the house, connecting with the interior renovation work also underway. Broad stairs lead down to the main patio, while planters provide separation and the opportunity for visual appeal.
The result is a completely restructured and significantly more usable exterior space that is well integrated with interior living spaces, optimizes usability of the available backyard space and affords spectacular views in every direction.
