Updated Entry and Privacy Screen

This downtown home in a mature neighbourhood had become isolated from the street. Overwhelmed by a spruce tree in the front yard, the entrance lacked presence or impact. The goal was to revitalize the exterior of the house, crating a new and welcoming entranceway.

Not just an update, this project completely rethought how to use the outdoor space to maximum effect. The driveway was moved to the other side at the back. The spruce tree was removed to open up visibility of the house. The existing driveway was cleared and grassed over, significantly expanding the front lawn.

The suspended overhang above the front was replaced, with a new awning supported by new timber framed columns creating a prominent and inviting entryway. The front steps were rebuilt, with hand-hewn stone slabs providing texture and interest.

New pathways of stone pavers create flowing connections between the front, rear and sidewalk, and providing spaces for new shrubs and plants to frame the entranceway. A privacy screen bridged by a unique wooden archway creates a physical and visual separation between front and back yards,.

The result is a revitalized front yard and an inviting entryway that opens the house to the street, where flowing lines lead to a more formal and prominent front door.
