Rendering is the process of generating an image from a model by means of a computer program. The term “rendering” may be an analogy with an “artist’s rendering” of a scene. For our design presentation purposes we first create a three-dimensional model of your particular project. If it is a completely new construction we will start by creating the site itself. If it is a renovation, then we will also re-create a model of your existing home. We often use ‘Google Earth’ to bring a satellite overview into the drawing and scale it to fit the model. This helps to locate roads, trees, other buildings, etc. that may be important to the design. Our software also allows us to re-create the site terrain with hills and slopes.
For interiors we will use objects from a library to set up rooms with furniture, cabinetry and fixtures.
All our designs are created and presented as a 3D model. For cost-saving purposes, the final rendering process is optional. The 3D ‘render’ can be generated with realistic lighting options, whether from simulated light fixtures or true sun-source lighting. We can actually duplicate the actual sun’s position for specific times of the year and of the day. Some clients find this a useful tool for visualizing their project more realistically or for sharing their concepts with others.
